May have issues with not being as protective as stock. Details here: https://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/index.php?/topic/182679-161-restock-revamping-ksps-art-march-15-bugfixes/&do=findComment&comment=3575402

Needs to be reassessed with RS 1.x and KSP 1.8.x

I affirm the same. The 0.625m heat shield is left nearly useless in game play by failure to actually occlude the probe core when using Restock.

This return is from LKO (72-75km) with a descent periapsis of 33km. From LKO, there should be NO heat ticks. SAS is disengaged. Retrograde is into the wind. There's nothing wrong here, but the part. The only reason I'm even talking about it on stream here is because I'd had the same issue in another play through on another mission, returning a probe from Minmus. Where, even after hitting atmo in the 60's, and going around the planet a dozen times scrubbing speed before final re-entry, the probe core still popped due to failure of occlusion.

If anyone's still maintaining ReStock, this is real. And it's a significant gameplay alteration that makes getting started in a mod like 'Probes Before Crew' unnecessarily difficult.

After whitelisting Squad's 0.625m part back into KSP and running another test, live, on stream, I am here to retract my assertion that this is an issue with ReStock. My first assumption was that this was Squad's issue... That they hadn't bothered to playtest the 0.625m heat shield significantly, and had left it with a more-or-less useless ablative cone. But a viewer, recreated the craft on a stock install and reported they had no such issues. And were able to return from Minmus heights with no major problem.

However, they had modified the craft to include an avionics hub, so that it would hold its surface retrograde perfectly on the way down. Which, in the video I'm linking, we discover invalidates the claim that ReStock must be doing something to make the part worse.

In fact, the part is just under-designed by Squad, as I originally supposed. Either the occlusion modeling or the thermal skin transfer makes the shield insufficient to perform its most basic function without the assistance of SAS.

I believe my words were, "Between Squad and the modders, I trust the modders." And I apologize for faltering in that belief at an unconfirmed report, stating otherwise.
