Problems this should solve

• Query editing UI differs dramatically between insight types
• The query editor and results have problems fitting in above the fold
• Complexity of the experience should only be as high as what you need

Open questions

• How do we expose all the available options in the space of a sidebar?

I'm proposing the following filters layout for the retention insight in favor of the current sentence-based layout.

Proposed layout

Aggregate by [Unique users]

Cohortizing event [Pageview] [Filters] <- Filters are new here [yes/no] performed for first time

Retaining event [Pageview] [Filters]

Global filters [Filters]

Retention window [10] [days]

Here is a screenshot of a sidebar-based editor in our current UI (feature flag 8929-insight-editor-panels:

Pros:

• feels more unified with grouped panels
• advanced options are hidden

Cons:

• takes up too much space, insight is very small when it should be the focus
• Long event names are cut off
