Basic community mapping models kit #57

We could possibly ship TS with a small set of useful custom mapping objects.

I could pick this one up if we get a more detailed checkbox-list of requirements up here!

Edit: checkbox list:

I also had an idea of random trinkets with UV maps set up for custom text, such as coffee mugs, various sign styles, flags, those triangle shaped signs that go on cars/trucks for advertisements, etc...

I'm playing with blender figuring this stuff out. I really like Google Sketchup so I think I'm going to use it for most of this and export models to blender then to TS. Blender is a lot to learn and I'm just eager to play with 0.3.8.

Southclaws commented 6 years ago

I'd avoid Sketchup for complex models, I'm not sure how it turns out when exported but the meshes are generally not fit for game-engine use for a variety of reasons (n-gons, poles, bad topology, etc) it's probably fine for objects not far from primitive complexity though.

Afaik, when you export the Sketchup models as an object and import them into Blender they are basically just the same as creating them in Blender... as long as you have the faces all pointing out correctly anyways (which is pretty easy, you can obviously tell if the faces are white or blue, people are just lazy).

Let's think Fortnite too, the entire map (besides the actual landscape) is built with simple walls, ramps, roofs, etc.

Lol... Just uploaded the commits for this then realized there's a face backward on like every one of them...
