Choose Bible Version #23

As a user I would like to be able to change the Bible version at the user card level and at a website wide level, so different user cards could use different Bible versions.

With all the trouble finding a bible API, I'd like to start with one english version and one Spanish version. Once we get multiple versions, I don't see this being a problem, but I would love to put this feature in the backlog instead of requiring it for the go live milestone.

I am ok with that. Do I get to choose the version?

If it matters here are some open-source/public domain versions that completely avoid copyright issues. https://www.quora.com/What-major-translations-of-the-Bible-are-in-the-Public-Domain https://christianity.stackexchange.com/questions/16377/what-major-translations-of-the-bible-are-in-the-public-domain

None of that said NET translation was not copyrighted, but I thought that was the case. If I have to go with a version that isn't copyrighted then I would choose the NET Bible in English and Reina Valera in Spanish.

NET is copyrighted, but it has a very open license. They have some requirements for what we have to do with it. We have to put the letters NET after the quote and display some text on the page with a link to their study tools. I imagine another component on the cards with the copyright text. I’m pretty sure every copyright holder is going to have similar requirements. RobbieOn Jan 7, 2024, at 3:44 PM, follindown @.***> wrote: None of that said NET translation was not copyrighted, but I thought that
