PressForward is a free plugin that provides an editorial workflow for content aggregation and curation within the WordPress dashboard. It is designed for bloggers and editorial teams who wish to collect, discuss, and share content from a variety of sources on the open web.
As discussed internally, we will add a landing page to the PressForward item in the Dashboard menu:
This landing page would appear when clicking Dashboard > PressForward, instead of All Content. The landing page would include information about the current installation - chosen statistics, etc. And it would have some inline documentation, including an overview of the two methods for getting content into PressForward (RSS subscriptions and Nominate This), and links to external documentation pages that describe the setup process.
I've done some initial work on this Welcome page. Screenshots:
A couple notes:
I chose 'Welcome' to describe the page in the nav menu, etc
I used WP's dashboard-metabox API. This means you can collapse or reorder the boxes, and those changes will be remembered by WP for future visits.
I started with three boxes: "Getting Started", "Nominations", and "Feeds". This seems like it captures most of what might be needed by a new user ("what do I do first?") or by a regular editor ("what's awaiting my review?")
The big number for nominations "awaiting review" was a visual flourish just for the heck of it. That number represents the count of nominations that have not been promoted, and so to me, it seems like a pretty important piece of data for any curator using PressForward.
Happy to hear feedback or thoughts about different ways of presenting this info.
