As per our last few discussions, I'm opening an item on the re-design of the UI. A few elements we discussed were

Added this to v 0.4.0 but not looking to rush to get this complete, we can keep moving until it's ready to hit a release

Looking at some early testing data, the most frequent analytic events that happen when using the app in the city for historic events are:

Based on this I'm proposing we add a UI element that allows us to quicky set a single destination, which would provide directions and update automatically when close enough to the destination to check in.

Secondly, we need a manual refresh button, occasionaly the map doesn't seem to be getting my most recent location, so it would be nice to have a button to manually refresh the whole thing with the current map and possibly flush and re-retrive the geo data. See #34 for further discussion.

For the first element, maybe just a GO! button, that sets up a single item list with the directions provided automatically and initally based on distance for type. ie. within 5km walk, greater than 5km drive.

In the future we could also have to provide a way for users to customize the GO! button, so they could set their default travel type or change the distance at which walk and drive switch.

For futher discussion on this see #33

The destination list entry probably doesn't need a GO! button. However when directions are selected, it should hide the other items in the list and provide a checkin button.

Some of the proposed changes image

This would include the GO! button. An automatic checkin button on list items with directions selected. New side menu for navigating between contexts, ie. Select new type or location, Lists, etc., this menu would not be visible on the mobile screen on load, it would be in a side menu which would reveal on clicking an indicator.
