Hi, In order for us to support (PDF) export, we need to certify the visual first (to get access to the APIs). It takes a lot of effort and a long time, so we have not made it a priority so far. We do, however, discuss it from time to time, but as with everything else it boils down to available resources and the priorities of other activities. By the end of March we should have version 3 of the visual ready with a lof of new features that customers have been asking for, so maybe after that we will consider certification again.
It would be great if Financial Reporting Matrix was verified by Power BI.
Thanks for your effort ;)
Hi @toresenneseth,
Does Export to PDF/PowerPoint is implemented in v3 (free or payable)? Thanks
Hi, Version 3 is not certified by Microsoft, but we are planning to get it certified starting with version 4. The reason we have stalled with getting it certified is that we have considered adding writeback capabilities to the visual so users could edit data / add comments etc. Visuals that make any outbound network calls cannot get certified, so we had to decide what was most important to customers - editing or exporting to PDF. Based on feedback, we decided to get it certified and instead create a different visual if / when we need to support writeback. We know Microsoft promotes Power Apps for writeback, but we haven't explored it yet, so we don't know if it's a viable option.
Tore,
Thanks for keeping us in the loop. We really like the Financial Reporting grid and think as a grid, it is way superior to the Microsoft PBI Matrix and Table objects, but there are several bugs / features which cause us issues. I will send you our AS Cube with PBIX file so you can see some of these issues.
On the export to PDF and I would also say Powerpoint, are you saying you get both if you are certified ? I notice with almost every 3rd Party control they don’t work on export to PDF or PPT, so when you output an entire PBIX from the service as a PDF or PPT, the pages with MS controls print fine and the ones with 3rd Parties are just included as blank pages !!
Can you confirm this and also the anticipated timescales for getting certified.
Feel free to arrange a Teams if you want me to show you the issues before sending the Cube and PBIX file.
Best
Paul

Hi Paul,
I'll send you an email that you can send your files to.
Certification enables export to both PDF and PowerPoint. We hope to have version 4 ready before in November, but we do not know how long the certification process will take, but we're hoping less than a month. (It takes at least a month to simply publish an uncertified custom visual, so a certification process is probably not shorter).
As for SSAS multidimensional cube support, there are bugs in the Power BI API for custom visuals to SSAS data sources, and we're not sure when Microsoft will fix them. It seems like the built-in (Microsoft) visuals use a different API than custom visuals, so what we get from Power BI is different than what you would get if you use the built-in matrix for example.
Hi, I'm happy to hear that when version 4 will be available you will apply for certification. My end-users will be very happy when they can copy a report as a picture to include in presentations etc. Workaround today is print-screen. Best regards, Helena
Hi,
Any update on v4 and potential certification? A client has requested the ability to export their P&L to pdf/pptx, however not sure if worth the effort to duplicate into a matrix should your next release be coming up shortly.
Thanks Scott
Hi,
Version 4 is still in development, so we don't have a fixed date. It should be feature complete in December, and we'll begin the certification process then. We're not sure how long that will take, because we haven't done it before. However, we're hoping to have it done by the end of January. Can't promise anything, though.
HI, Our client also requires this export functionality.
Will this certified version be able to export all the rows/subtotals into one massive pdf/excel report as the current version (3.0.4) cuts off data due to the page dimensions (This is using PowerBi Desktop)
Also, do you perhaps have any ETA when this will be ready?
Thank you
Hi,
Version 4 has just been certified. Depending on which region you live in, it should be available for download from AppSource/Marketplace within 1-3 weeks.
Note that if you browse the certified visuals in AppSource now, you can see version 4.0.2 listed as available, but if you download it, you may still get version 3. Microsoft makes custom visuals available through "release rings", so one region might get a new version 1-2 weeks earlier than other regions. However, they only have one listing on the AppSource web site, so what you see is not necessarily what you get. It's all very confusing if you ask me, but the reasoning behind doing it like this is to have the option to stop a release if a critical issue is found during release to one region.
Good Day.
Thank you for the information.
Do you think i could just use a vpn to change regions? Will the export also allow for drilldowns to be exported over multiple pages?
Regards

I doubt that will work because when you do an export from web, the export is executed on some server in Azure before sent back to the client.
The export is managed entirely by Power BI and should display whatever state the visual is in when the user performs the export. We haven't even been able to test the export yet, because it hasn't reached our release ring / region yet. I know this sounds strange, but Microsoft does not provide a way for us to test the export until it has been certified and reached our region.
Really looking forward to this, and pretty fustrating Microsoft won't show any tranparency on when to expect this. @toresenneseth is there any way you have to ability to notify when the update is fully sent out? I've already put in a complaint with MS that Appsource is embarrassing limited
You you registered for the newsletter when downloading the visual, you should get an email with the announcement when it's available in all regions. If you didn't sign up, just send an email to post@profitbase.no to sign up for the newsletter.
Hi @toresenneseth
It looks like that the version here (Australia) we get now from Power BI Appsource is 4.0.2 now and it is also certified. I have imported this visual again from the Appsource to have it updated, and I have verfied the version in the report is 4.0.2 (by unziping the PBIX file). However, when I test the export of my report on Power BI Service, it is still saying that this visual doesn't support this functionality. I am just wondering if there is anything I need to do to update my report so this function can be enabled. Or, it is still a matter that we need to wait for Microsoft to propagate things through.
Thank you very much. Great visual for finance reporting!
Does it say 4.0.2 in the About dialog? When the report runs, Power BI downloads something else from their production servers. FYI, we were told yesterday by Microsoft that 4.0.2 will reach production servers on March 25...let's see if that actually happens. They also said we'll get the certified badge on March 31, so I guess that tells us something about this process too since we already got it earlier this week:/
The 1st pic below is what I got when I unzipped the PBIX file. Also, I find it strange how this visual doesn't have the certified badge in the search result but it does when you go into the visual page. I guess it's just Microsoft's mysterious process.
You have to open the About dialog in Desktop / Online editor by right clicking the icon in the Visualizations pane:
The badge thing has probably something to do with which region you are in. The badge shows up when I filter/search in the import dialog (based in Norway).
Thanks for that, didn't know about it. Yeah, it is version 4.0.2.
FYI, I just noticed that I got v4.0.2 (which is certified) when adding the visual from AppSource. However, the export did not work. I'll check with Microsoft what's going on. I'm guessing there's some Power BI server that is not up to date yet...and it wouldn't surprise me if the server(s) that's performing the export is not in sync with the servers that are issuing the badges / keeping a list of certified visuals. So maybe you won't be able to export the visual until March 31 like they said earlier. I'll check with them.
Hi all,
As of April 3rd, it seems like version 4.0.2 has finally reached all regions, and you should now be able to export reports with this visual. Note that we haven't heard anything official from Microsoft, but it has reached the Norwegian region, and I'm assuming we're the last to get it since we're a pretty small and remote country :)
I'll go ahead an close this issue, but if someone still can't export, feel free to reopen.
We are incorporating the PBI Profitbase matrix into several PBI models which have multiple pages. We want to then save as pdf using standard PBI functionality.
This works brilliantly on standard Microsoft controls, but when we have a page with a Profitbase matrix, it says "this functionality is not supported by the visual". Are there plans to change this as whilst we advocate online, online, online, many of our customers still want to output to a standard pack.
