Left Forum organizes the largest annual gathering of progressive people in the US. 4,500+ people come each year, 1,200 speakers, 400 event. This year it is June 2nd to June 4th at John Jay College in New York City, later on there will be one in LA to.
Our website got an update to drupal 7 and we need a web designer who helps to improve our website, which soon will get hopefully more features and content. www.leftforum.org
Who we're looking for
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Assist lead web developer (Drupal 7) including website configuration, displays (views), reports/exports, and content production
• Develop functional and appealing web- and mobile-based applications based on usability
• Provide website maintenance and enhancements
• Use a combination of markup languages to write web pages
• Write functional requirement documents and specifications
• Create quality mockups and prototypes on tight timelines
• Assist back-end developers with coding and troubleshooting
• Create cascading style sheets (CSS) that are consistent across all browsers and platforms
• Maintain graphic standards and branding throughout the product’s interface
• Stay up-to-date on emerging technologies
• Promote usability best practices
• Professional experience and skills
• Work with events coordinators to develop the website
BACKGROUND AND DESIRED EXPERIENCE:
• Knowledge of Drupal 7, HTML , CSS, SaSS and Responsive design (bootstrap theme), Javascript necessary. Knowledge of jQuery would be good too.
• Understanding of layout aesthetics in the social movement sphere
• Rigor for programming, some back-end knowledge
• Experience with open source applications is a plus
• Strong organizational skills
• A high level of attention to detail
• The ability to prioritize and handle a variety of projects
• Applied written and verbal communication skills
• The ability to work effectively, both individually and in a team
• Familiarity with grassroots organizing and social justice is a plus
• Need to be responsive to communication when working remotely.
Tools
We use drupal 7 and currently on a bootstrap theme to make the website more responsive to different screen sizes/devices. We would like to have new CSS or making better use of the bootstrap ones.
We are open for proposals to redesign the site.
We have a development site and an archive site (where the old website with drupal 6 sits on).
