About the group

Fundraise for causes by helping your neighbours. If you want to raise money for an inspiring cause, why do it through a sponsored sky dive, abseiling or marathon, when loads of your neighbours (let alone friends & family) would be delighted to give money to a deserving project or cause if you just help them with something actually useful?

Dignityplatform.org - Giving by Doing.

We're seeking a Lead Developer / technical cofounder to join our Core team. We're also generally very welcoming of interest, questions and suggestions from creative and experienced people, especially in the field of tech development.

We're not developers; we're a group of people with a varied background in the 3rd sector and community projects that are building a more just and sustainable society. We want to create more fun, effective and neighbourly ways for people to raise money for awesome stuff they're passionate about. We're also getting people active and meeting each other locally (by matching needs + offers for skills via the app we've been mocking up and devising a business plan around) and giving supporters (be they Hirers or Doers) a voice in how these causes operate - harnessing everyone's creativity and insight, making us all part of the solution, not just the cashflow.

Who we're looking for

We're open to anyone interested in what we're doing. It's a great bonus if you're UK based, especially south of England. We consider ourselves a Teal inspired platform co-op. based on open source principles; so are especially interested to hear from people sharing an interest in these areas. Ideally you'll be a senior developer based in south England, with either interest and capacity to become part of our paid Core team, or you'd like to explore volunteering your invaluable expertise and energy in a more informal, ad-hoc way.

Tools

So far, our limited tech expertise suggests we may want to use Angular, Node.js, and Ruby perhaps, though we'd like more experience on this, hence we're reaching out for it now.

Take a look at www.Simbi.com for the kind of UX and features we're looking for. The main differences to Simbi would be

  1. Addition of payment processor (with which the Hirer pays sterling; with the highest possible % going to causes, ideally with inclusion of Gift Aid where applicable)
  2. Cause profiles (see Mock ups ^ folder) showing a) what skills people are offering or wanting, in order to raise money for this cause b) what proposals are currently coming from this causes' supporters (and what the org is doing about them, if anything)

Contact

Do get in touch however you prefer. t.me/lflegg 07851054199 luke@dignityplatform.org

Hi @lukeflegg ! Is this a Job posting or a volunteer opportunity?

lukeflegg commented 7 years ago

Hey @rcscastillo - it's both. We're seeking volunteer help (with anything that people are most interested to help with, from actually helping with writing code, to giving us advice or assisting with user journeys or wire framing)

but we're also currently getting a small amount of funding together to bring a Lead Dev into our paid Core team over the coming weeks and months, who would be putting in at least 15+ hours a week.

We aim to be financially self sustaining within 1 or 2 years. Until then we'll be raising around £150k grant funding, mostly to pay ourselves, once expenses have been covered. (Already we've raised a small minority of that amount and have been able to compensate ourselves for some of the hours we've put into Dignity so far - which you can find here tiny.cc/activitylogs)
