About the group
We want to make it easy for people who want to be active politically to find a nearby opportunity that matches their interests. Starting by scraping, normalizing and deduping events, we will be adding them to http://activismengine.org frontend for use by the http://civ.works community and the public.
Who we're looking for
The project will be in Python, but Ruby and Perl coders will probably find it an easy step up also. The project lead has little time but a lot of experience making this kind of framework. We'll use pandas for data processing and mysql for storage. Will be a command line interface, no fancy ui. We can use UI coders on another project tho so if this interests you and you're a front end dev, contact me anyway.
Tools
Python, pandas, mysql. Some address normalizing and geocoding libraries, maybe some ML algorithms after we get the basic data scraped and loaded.
