The Progressive HackNight organizers want to make sure that everyone who attends a HackNight has a clear set of expectations and understanding of how the event works.
The onboarding breakout group will meet at the beginning of the night each week, and will show people how to best engage with the event and set up the tools that an attendee would need to participate most effectively.
Who will benefit (directly and indirectly) from this project?
New attendees will directly benefit by having a focused organizer to show them the ropes. The community will also benefit from having attendees who know what's going on!
Where can we find any research/data available/articles?
As of right now, there isn't any. Ideally in the long run we'll have some stats on how this effort is going.
What help is needed at this time?
We'd love to see community members leading the onboarding group eventually! Seeing a full life-cycle of newcomers becoming leaders would be exciting and aligned with our community driven organizing.
What are the next steps (validation, research, coding, design)?
Writing up some data on how these onboarding sessions are going
Documenting onboarding well enough that anyone could lead the group
How can we contact you outside of Github (list social media or places you're present)?
You can contact any of the organizers at steering@progressivehacknight.org and can specifically contact me at ilona@progressivehacknight.org
