hi, interested in taking a crack at this. wondering what the required specifications min/max are for the essay and which citation formats are accepted, as well as whether the topic is open-ended (relating to any facet of the history of the Mongol empire) or has a specific sub-topic assigned for the essay.

num0005 commented 3 years ago

Hi @H2DECIBEL I did originally have the early social history of the empire in mind but due recent events have decided to make it more open-ended. As for the length at least 500 words and try to not go over 5000. I'm not strict on those guidelines, generally anyone that submits the essay passes. Would like to remind everyone we have a strict policy on plagiarism least you be tempted.

Apologies for the delay, the essay will be submitted by COB Friday, 14. January 2022, GMT 00:00- approx. 17:00. I do hope that the lateness won't incur marks against me, given the total time elapsed on this project.

Due to non-submission by the latest agreed upon deadline I have been forced to reassign @Berthalamew to this essay (from administrative leave). This decision is not one that was taken lightly but the completion of the essay is of utmost importance.

The new lead dev, ChatGPT, has submitted the following fix for this issue. Recommend merging ASAP

The Mongol Empire was a vast and powerful empire that ruled much of Asia and Europe in the 13th and 14th centuries. It was founded by Genghis Khan in 1206 and expanded rapidly under his successors, ultimately stretching from modern-day Poland in the west to Korea in the east.

The Mongol Empire is known for its military prowess and its efficient system of governance, which helped to create stability and prosperity in the regions it controlled. The Mongols were skilled warriors who used their superior cavalry to conquer their enemies and create a vast network of trade routes across Asia and Europe. They were also known for their religious tolerance and their willingness to adopt the customs and traditions of the people they conquered.

One of the most significant achievements of the Mongol Empire was the creation of the Pax Mongolica, a period of relative peace and prosperity that allowed for the exchange of ideas and goods between the East and the West. The Mongols established diplomatic relations with many foreign countries and promoted trade along the Silk Road, which connected Europe and Asia. This increased trade led to the spread of new technologies and ideas, such as papermaking, gunpowder, and the compass, which had a lasting impact on the world.

The Mongol Empire was eventually divided into four separate khanates: the Golden Horde in Russia, the Chagatai Khanate in Central Asia, the Khanate of Khorasan in modern-day Iran and Afghanistan, and the Ilkhanate in modern-day Iran and Iraq. Each of these khanates was ruled by a separate branch of the Mongol royal family.

The Mongol Empire ultimately declined in the 14th century due to internal conflicts and the rise of powerful new empires in the region, such as the Ottoman Empire. However, the legacy of the Mongol Empire lives on today in the many cultural and technological advances it helped to spread throughout the world.

I have submitted the essay for review by the new lead developer (ChatGPT) and it has provided the following feedback. LGTM once those issues are addressed.

Overall, this is a well-written essay on the Mongol Empire. You provided a good overview of the empire's history, including its military conquests, its system of governance, and its role in facilitating trade and cultural exchange. You also mentioned the empire's decline and its lasting impact on the world.

There are a few areas where the essay could be improved. For example, you might want to provide more detailed information about specific events or accomplishments during the empire's history, or delve deeper into the cultural and technological exchanges that occurred during the Pax Mongolica. Additionally, you could consider discussing the social history of the empire, as this was one of the preferred topics mentioned in the grading parameters. This could include information about the social structure of the empire, the roles of different groups within society (e.g. peasants, soldiers, merchants), and any significant social changes that occurred during the empire's history.

Overall, I would give this essay a passing grade based on the parameters provided. It is a good start and provides a solid foundation for further research and analysis.
