Hey Thomas!
I've been internally debating whether to share these files or not and have (for the time being) landed on not sharing them as it would make it much more plausible for someone(s) to take the design, make minor changes, and rebrand it as their own. Sharing only the .3MF files seemed like a good middle-ground to me, as it gives access to the objects, without the ability to (easily) make minor changes.
Though now that I think about it, the SolidWorks "Maker" licence would mean that only other "makers" could open the files, which I'm more on-board with 🤔
Out of curiosity, what do you plan to do with the SW files?
No I totally respect that as you should get full credit for all the hard work you have done! My interest is in the actuators primarily as I started designing something similar to yours as I know I wanted to use carbon fibre tube with rollers for a really low inertia system. I then found yours and you were much further ahead and had very kindly put the printed parts out so I've now built one of the actuators. I'm currently undertaking a PhD in marine renewable energy and I'd like to use a similar system, but quite modified, for 6DoF a marine structure in a tank. The SW files were really just for my interest to understand the system further as my system will have to be quite different. But I have now since found the .step assembly which will more than serve the purpose. I am very happy to share my progress on my system and will of course give you credit for the great help you have shared! Many thanks, Thomas
Haha awesome! I'm happy to hear that there exists another of my actuators somewhere out there in the world. Very cool feeling 🤗
I'm glad that the .step file will suit your purposes 😊 I'm still pondering this but I'm honestly leaning more towards sharing full CAD files in the future. I might go back and do the same for these actuators but I like to make sure that the things I'm publishing are easy to use/understand so organising all the files in a sensible way will take some time...
If you happen to have other questions etc. about the actuators (or want to see what modifications other people have suggested), you should head to this project's Zulip site (https://pdj.zulipchat.com/) and I'll happily chime in where possible 😊
Best of luck with your PhD!!
I've attached a pic of the one I built.
Will do and thanks!
Hi Harrison,
Thank you for the great work you have done on the linear actuators!
Would it be possible to share the solidworks files for these by any chance?
many thanks,
Thomas
