Griffin: We don't have a plugin installed that has a /recipe command. We suggest players just use the crafting book & /allrecipes if necessary
Griffin: I've been considering making /allrecipes automatic on login. There's a certain element of survival you lose by not discovering recipes on your own, but I think its an extremely small element. With how many custom recipes we have, it would make it easier for players to learn them.
Griffin: Anyone have thoughts?
Cyn: It has my
Griffin: We could have a command that removes all learned recipes so that if someone really wants that survival experience they can have it, but I personally think most players don't really care either way or just want the easier option.
Wakka: could just actually use the .unlockBy() thing so those custom recipes can get learned 🙂
Griffin: That's not really relevant to what I'm talking about
Wakka: There's a certain element of survival you lose by not discovering recipes on your own
is that not what that would add ?
Griffin: This discussion is mostly about vanilla recipes
Griffin: I mentioned the added benefit that they can learn about our custom recipes easier, but otherwise its not relevant
Barza: I honestly forgot you can just look up any recipe in the crafting table, so my bad. That's a fine alternative. In terms of its effectiveness in teaching players the custom recipes, I think it depends. Some of the easy conversion ones will be easy to find through that, as they may stumble upon it while crafting them in normal ways (e.g. you may see it trying to craft slabs). However, things like invisible item frames, light blocks, and more obscure ones like that, I don't think people will find unless they know of their existence, which isn't accomplished by that.
I agree that /allrecipes on login will barely have any affect on the gameplay, but a potential alternative (just to put it out there): make a tip that says something like "/allrecipes will unlock all recipes for easy lookup in the recipe book, along with the recipes for some of our /customrecipes !". It could exist already, I'm not certain though.
Barza: I'm like 99% sure though that there's a tip for the existence of /customrecipes. What you may want to do is to split that up into smaller tips, such as: "Project Eden allows you to convert slabs back into their block forms. Check out /customrecipes for more helpful recipes!" or "Want nice ambience noise for your house? Consider crafting the windchimes from our /customrecipes!"
Why? If you tell players what they could find, they'll be more incentivized to look into it. Just saying there's /customrecipes may not interest players much since they don't get a taste of what they actually are
Blast: We do have the admin testing uncraft menu, which does essentially do what /recipe did in a way? But I'm all for /allrecipes, I high key thought that was default already
Barza: Assuming it works, give players access to the /recipe command. It's a very helpful alternative to looking up the recipe online and waiting for images or websites to load.
