Add Basic Users #8

This is my best attempt at being a Rubyist. Mostly true to the name, this contains a bunch of junk for users. There are also a couple things like fixing travis and rake in here too.

Why was this merged? There are at least 3 outstanding issues on it.

They're mostly style things, and the code is functional. So I don't see it as important enough to make you jump through hoops before merging. But you're welcome to address the points in a separate PR if you want.
