Navbar drop down buttons shown as selected if deselecting by clicking the button

Brief description of problem/feature

When clicking on a drop down in the navbar, the button goes into a grayed out "selected" state.

But if you click on the button again to close the drop down menu, the button remains visually in the "selected" state.

Expected behavior

The button should go back to an "deselected" state, as it does if you close the drop down menu by clicking elsewhere on the page:
