I like this a lot. Events sound like a great way to get a huge boost towards 100% completion. And it is kind of cool that the auditing is virtual, since we can make it a virtual meetup as well!
We could message the transportation techies meetup group, and similar groups. Create local meetup events in UW, UMD, and/or DC, create a FB event, etc.
I like it too. Could be a good way to launch new city support post-CHI.

When we do a launch into multiple cities, this would be a great way to jump start them!
I would like to plan at least one of these for this summer. Let's talk about this during our next meeting and coordinate with the large summer team we now have...
:100:
An example of a mapathon done by StreetCred to map Austin: https://events.streetcred.co/mapaustin/
New contests (June 2019) just announced for NYC and LA: https://events.streetcred.co/mapnyc/ and https://events.streetcred.co/mapla/
Such city by city mapathon events are a great way to collect and maintain volunteer-based data. Of course, there needs to be an incentive like they have provided in the form of Bitcoins.
I also believe there is a research paper there as well -- studying such techniques for collecting and maintaining city level data.
I can see a nice hybrid system for remote + physical auditing data collection and maintenance there while also serving as a great civic engagement tool!
Last week, a virtual mapathon in Mexico City was organized, and monthly mapathons are being organized in Columbus (now virtual due to COVID-19). Is this still the kind of thing we'd want to organize ourselves? We have a large enough team now that it almost makes sense to do an internal mapathon :joy:
As Mikey mentioned, we are now doing mapathons—which I think are great. We should continue doing them and, yes, I think we should set some up ourselves once we have a few more gamificaiton features added (like leaderboard).
I know we're running out of time this summer but it would be fun and useful to run a Project Sidewalk mapathon. We could base it on the OpenStreetMap Mapping Weekends. We could compare the quality of data collected from this with general volunteer data. We could try to host dual events at UW and UMD.
