This pull request, as the title says, intends to include modifications that were made by Gunnar Ritter and other contributors after the 070715 release, but that unfortunately didn't live up to a new release. It's saddening to see such grand changes being left apart, but we're including them in the new release. We're back.

Well, there's no problem if this breaks something, since I will be testing it anyway in 20240220-fix.
