Ugly error is being displayed in case the config file doesn't fit the version

If a workflow is being run with an older version of the protocol and we add parameters later on, the loading of the previous config fails.

Solution 1: Don't load the config and display an error that the config version is too old

Solution 2: Leave all missing parameters at their default value (but more work for me)

@veitveit I think solution 2 is more user friendly. What do you prefer?
