New Chapter Request - Seattle #21

Closed zebul closed 5 years ago

zebul commented 5 years ago

Hi, I would like to start a ProtoSchool chapter for Seattle. I am a self-employed advocate of distributed ledger technology and would love to help build the Seattle ProtoSchool community. I have been following Protocol Labs for over a year and playing with IPFS for several months. I do not have a co-organizer at this time but am excited to work with other organizers in the community. I am happy to contribute a meeting space, my resources and my passion as a community advocate in Seattle.

Sounds great, @zebul. I'm working on getting a seattle chapter repo set up for you.

One of your responsibilities as chapter organizer will be to administer your chapter's Code of Conduct. Can you please provide me with the contact information you'd like used if a chapter member needs to report a violation of that CoC?

Hi, @zebul, I can help, too. Excited about the community grow roots in Seattle!

👋 @jimcal! Mind telling us a little about your background and interest in the decentralized web?

jimcal commented 5 years ago

Of course! I have been paying attention to the decentralized web landscape for a while. Had a chance to spoke to Mikael Rogers and was really inspired by his talk at CascadiaJS 2018. Have been working as a software engineer with near a decade of experience, but just getting started with decentralized web! I can volunteer my time and would like to help by being a community advocate!

@zebul are you game to have @jimcal join forces with you?

One of your responsibilities as chapter organizers will be to administer your chapter's Code of Conduct. Can you please provide me with the contact information you'd like used if a chapter member needs to report a violation of that CoC? Some chapters create a central gmail account for the organizers to share for this purpose, and some list multiple individual contacts.

zebul commented 5 years ago

@terichadbourne sounds good. Looking forward to working with @jimcal. I made an email account for CoC violation reports - proto.school.seattle@gmail.com

Working on a proposed Code of Conduct for the Seattle Chapter today. @jimcal can I run it by you?

jimcal commented 5 years ago

@zebul Absolutely. jimcal.liu at gmail is the best way to contact me.

terichadbourne commented 5 years ago

@zebul Thanks for the PRs to the Seattle repo to update the README and CoC. I've merged those edits and made you and @jimcal admins on the repo so you'll be able to make future updates on your own. I've also added you each to both the chapter-organizers team and the new seattle team, which you can use to contact your chapter's members.

With your Seattle repo now ready, you can go ahead and submit a PR adding your chapter to the chapters.json file in the protoschool.github.io repo, following the data format described in the chapter setup instructions to make your chapter magically appear in our chapter listings.

Thanks!

jimcal commented 5 years ago

Thanks @terichadbourne, I just created a PR for adding seattle to protoschool.github.io repo. https://github.com/ProtoSchool/protoschool.github.io/pull/144

I am not aware of CONTRIBUTING.md in the main repo. Please feel free to give me feedback if any other info I should add to the PR process.

terichadbourne commented 5 years ago

Thanks @jimcal ! The PR looked great and I’ve just merged it so we should see Seattle added to the website shortly.

Should you decide to build a chapter website in the future, you can submit a PR to add a website field to the chapters.json file to make your listing redirect there instead of to your repo.

Closing out this issue now. Thanks again for organizing!
