Hi ProtoSchool team,

We would like to start a ProtoSchool chapter for Hangzhou, China.

I'm gary @rjl493456442, ethereum go team member. Now I am focusing on the go-ethereum project feature development and maintenance. Also, I was the core developer of the hyperchain project, which is one of the best consortium blockchain project in China.

Co-organizers

And also @grokcoder is my co-organizer, he is a software engineer at Qulian focused on Distributed and Decentralized techniques. He has used IPFS for a year and used IPFS as a base network and storage layer to construct a decentralized content delivery network and a trust data sharing network called BitXMesh. He hopes to help more people understand and use IPFS to make a better-decentralized web.

What's more, let me introduce Qulian a bit.

Qulian Technology is an international leading blockchain team with all core team members graduated from Zhejiang University, Tsinghua University and other first-class universities at home and abroad, and Academician Chen Chun of the Chinese Academy of Engineering acted as chairman of the board. The company has a team of nearly 200 people, 90% of whom are technicians, more than 10 have doctoral degrees and 140 have master's degrees. The core competitiveness of the company is Hyperchain bottom technology platform. This platform ranks first in the technical evaluation of several large and medium-sized financial institutions. It is also the first batch of bottom platforms to pass the Blockchain Standard Test of the China Electronics Standardization Institute (CESI) and China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT) of Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT). It has applied for 28 patents in blockchain related fields. Checkout the website for more detail https://www.hyperchain.cn/en.

And @yyh1102 is my another co-organizer, he is the founder and incumbent chairman of the Blockchain Association of Zhejiang Univeristy (ZJUBCA) @Blockchain-zju. ZJUBCA is an comprehensive organization focusing on blockchain, led by Blockchain Researching Center of Zhejiang Univeristy. It is aimed to spread blockchain knowledge and encourage developers in college to be involved in blockchain development. ZJUBCA has hosted 30+ meet-ups about blockchain knowledge sharing including Ethereum, EOS, IPFS, HyperLedger and so on, and has built good relationship with Ethfans( the most great Ethereum community in China) and MEET.ONE( one of the most famous super block producer in EOSIO ecology system). In 2019, we plan to focus on IPFS and Filecoin and operate a good channel to link official projects with developers in college. More details can be found in Wechat Official Account.

Hi ProtoSchool team! We would like to start a ProtoSchool chapter for Hangzhou, China.

Chaoyi Wu (@wcy1231@qq.com) and I (@QibingLee) are the co-organizers of the BithackTech Community of Zhejiang University (top-3 in China). It is the largest non-commercial organization for those who loves decentralized technologies. The community now consists of nearly 80 students and 500+ alumni. We also establish cooperation with professors from academic research (e.g., Wenzhi Chen and Hongxin Zhang from ZJU CS) and developers from industry (e.g., Tencent, Alibaba, Huawei), and even incubator projects (e.g., BitRun, 8BTC boost and Ethereum Community Fund). This promotes fast learning of cutting-edge technologies for our community members.

Specifically, we conduct the weekly technical seminar, discussing the most influential decentralized systems and explaining their technical implementations. We also encourage our members to participate in the 42h BitRun Hackathon Challenge; several decentralized apps or developer tools are implemented and now open-sourced, see hackathon-bitrun. Furthermore, we dive into advanced technologies and correspondingly set up different research-groups, including privacy, layer2, cross-chain, dweb, identity and reputation and so on.

We believe that IPFS is a nice research & development infrastructure for our community students, and therefore we hope to establish a good cooperation partnership with ProtoSchool, to further inspire their creativity. On the other hand, we believe that we meet the requirements of ProtoSchool. In the new term, we plan to discuss the design philosophies of IPFS and Filecoin in our weekly seminar, and build more DApps based on IPFS, truly enabling a better decentralized world.

@QibingLee We can work together to build a wonderful chapter in Hangzhou if you are willing to.

0xqibing commented 5 years ago

@yyh1102 , I think it's a good idea. We could work together and cooperate on all the events of the ProtoSchool Hangzhou chapter, which will bring this chapter more influence.

@rjl493456442 @grokcoder @yyh1102 @QibingLee So sorry for the delay in getting back to you all. I'm excited to see such a great group excited to cooperate and offer education about the decentralized web in Hangzhou!

@QibingLee Does Chaoyi Wu also have a GitHub account? I want to make sure I give admin status to all the right folks when setting up the repo.

I'd love to help set up a chapter repo for you, but we'll need to ensure that we have an appropriate reporting method listed in your Code of Conduct in case anyone has concerns that need to be addressed. Usually this would either be a list of organizer names and their individual email addresses for the user to pick from or a group email list set up and shared by the chapter organizers so that any report can be sent to a single email address and reach all members of the organizing team (for example, protoschool-hangzhou@yahoo.com). I'm not sure which email services are readily available in China, so I'll rely on you as organizers to select the best approach. Please let me know what works!

rjl493456442 commented 5 years ago

@terichadbourne Hi, thanks for the reply! Regarding the mail services in China, yes some of them are blocked by the firewall. But no worry about it, we have some approaches to fix it.

I and my teammates have applied a Gmail email address protoschool.hangzhou@gmail.com. We can use it as the group mail.

terichadbourne commented 5 years ago

@rjl493456442 Sounds great! Thanks for getting that set up.

I've set aside some time tomorrow to work on setting up the hangzhou repo for you.

I see real names in some of your GitHub profiles but not all of them. Any chance you could gather up a single list of all the contact info to be shared for the organizing team? (This is for the readme as opposed to the Code of Conduct). For example...

Teri Chadbourne @terichadbourne (GitHub) @EventTeri (Twitter)
Someone Else . etc etc

Feel free to add another category if I'm missing a social network that's popular in China, and of course it's fine if not every person has an account on each of these platforms. My main concern is to highlight all of the individuals who are kindly dedicating their time to the community.

Thanks so much!

@rjl493456442 @yyh1102 @grokcoder @terryding77 @wcy1231 @QibingLee

I've set up a basic hangzhou repo for you and given you admin privileges. I've also added you to our chapter-organizers team and the hangzhou team you can use to communicate with your members.

Please see the issue queue in your chapter repo for a few final steps that need to be taken in order to get your repo finalized and your chapter listed on our website. Once those steps are complete, we'll close out this setup issue.

rjl493456442 commented 5 years ago

@terichadbourne Appreciate for all your effort, will finish the required operations as soon as possible!

@rjl493456442 @yyh1102 @grokcoder @terryding77 @wcy1231 @QibingLee

I'll let you address the offer by @gaoyutech to help out as a chapter leader.

Thanks for submitting the pull request to add your chapter to our website. I've just merged the PR, so you should already see your chapter appear at https://proto.school/#/chapters. Should you decide in the future to add a website for your chapter (which you can easily do from your repo with GitHub Pages), please be sure to update the chapters.json file to include a website field with your website URL. This will update the link in our chapter listings. I'll close this issue now, but don't hesitate to reach out with questions.
