Deleting save function

Delete some of the save related functions.

Also remove some unnecessary intermediate function, and .ddg prefixes.

As previously please test thoroughly with cleanR or provide script to do so....

Great, I'll pass this through cleanR once this passes Travis tests.

Do you know why your nosave branch is out of sync with provR@dev?

Just missing the "merge" commit. Should be ok now (although I think he could have merged anyway).
