Installed Visual Studio 2010 Express
Loaded Oculus SDK 0.8 projects and succeeded to compile the OculusRoomTiny sample program. The changes and steps to achieve compilation are tracked in a Git repository entitled "OculusSDK" currently owned by frenchjam.
OculusRoomTiny (GL) does not execute, most likely because there is no Oculus RIFT attached.
I installed Oculus Runtime 0.8 with the hope of getting the Oculus configuration tool so as to enable the emulator mode that simulates an Oculus Rift.
Installing the Oculus Runtime seems to have installed Visual C 2013 Runtime as well.
Windows Update identifies 137 updates to be installed but when I try to install them, nothing gets downloaded. Not even a single byte.
HP Connection Manager throws a couple of messages at the start of each session. I should try to turn it off, but I don't know how.
Tired to launch VS2010 while Windows Update was running, but it failed to start. Canceling and restarting was sufficient.
I shutdown and restarted the Perspectives Development VM under Parallels. Apparently, it had downloaded 4 updates, which it proceeded to install before shutting down and configured on start up. I don't at this time know what updates were installed.
I checked the list of updates that had been downloaded and applied. There is a mix of times where I accepted or postponed the updates and now there is a long list of pending updates. From now on I am going to apply all available updates to the Perspectives Development VM. When it comes to the deployment (execution) environment, I will think about it again.
After a lot of struggling, Windows Update has been used to finally bring the Perspectives Development VM up to date. Some observations about the process:
It is not clear to me whether any of these changes did anything, or if it was just a matter of being patient. Killing the overactive svchost.exe process at the right time may have helped. It's pretty unclear. But eventually the VM started downloading the 137 updates and applying them.
Application of all 137 failed because the primary hard disk on my Mac filled up. I had to move my "Offline Data" directory from ~jam to my "Recover 2015" disk and delete it from my Macintosh HD hard disk to free up space. I was then able to restart the Perspectives Development VM and restart the Update process. As near as I can tell, the Windows on the VM is now up to date.
Performed some new updates and rebooted.
Copied "Perspectives Development" VM to "Recover 2015" disk as a backup.
Removed "Perspectives Development" VM from my Mac internal hard disk to make room for a new VM. Also removed the iTunes Media directory from ~jam to make room for a new VM. Used Parallels Transporter Agent to make a new VM with the current state of my Perspectives laptop.
I named the new clone of the Perspectives Laptop "Perspectives Baseline beta" and at the same time increased the number of processors to 4 and the virtual installed memory to 4 GB.
I copied "Perspectives Baseline beta" to my "Recover 2015" disk. I then renamed the local machine VM to "Perspectives Development bis".
Used the following command line to generate a list of updates installed on the Perspectives Development bis VM.
wmic qfe list brief /format:texttablewsys > "%USERPROFILE%\hotfix.txt"
Perspectives Development bis Installed Updates (2016-02-06).txt
And took a screen shot of the programs already installed at this point.

Installed Microsoft Visual Studio 2015 Express
Attached Oculus to USB port (only - not the video). Parallels asked me whether to connect it to Mac or Windows. I said Windows. In Windows I then got a popup saying that a USB driver had been installed.
Started from "Perspectives Baseline alpha".
