IMPORTANT UPDATE #342

Open FredX2021 opened 1 year ago

FredX2021 commented 1 year ago

What happened?

Cannot access server list. More details will be explained in Additional Conrtext. This is very serious and should never be ignored.

Expected Behaviour?

It should've displayed the text "Join to access Sever List"

Steps to reproduce.

  1. Open settings on Xbox.
  2. Navigate to network settings and press A.
  3. Navigate to Advanced settings and press A.
  4. Navigate to DNS settings and press A.
  5. Choose manual and press A.
  6. Fill in the DNS you want to connect.
  7. Let it run the connection test and close Settings
  8. Open Minecraft and Navigate to the servers section.
  9. It would display "Join to open Server List" but, does not work.

Minecraft Bedrock Version

1.19.31

Console

Xbox Series S

Additional Context

Xbox pushed a mandatory update that disables the core component to access the server list. Even if you try the steps again and again, it still won't work because the update has disabled a core component of BedrockConnect. I would recommend you investigate this immediately because this has been a common problem for many players who play on Xbox. UPDATE: This still works on Nintendo Switch.

Do you have any sources on this Xbox update, that state in any patch notes that it changes DNS functionality? I ask since it's common for the custom DNS to mess up for a little bit after updating the game/console or restarting your network. This type of behavior isn't unheard of. It's behavior on Xbox we can't really change.

"It would display "Join to open Server List" but, does not work."

Can you expand on "does not work"? Does it just direct to the originally featured servers?

"I would recommend you investigate this immediately because this has been a common problem for many players who play on Xbox"

This submitted issue is the first I've heard of this mandatory update today. Do you have links to the other people's reports so it can help us investigate?

  1. I heard it from a comment on a YT video.
  2. It just directs me to the featured servers.
  3. It's oddly similar to this one. https://github.com/Pugmatt/BedrockConnect/issues/243#issue-1070268785

I'll keep investigating, but I don't think what's happening here is any different than what we already know. This has been a common issue for a while, and it's unfortunately just due to the nature of the manual DNS / DNS cache functionality on Xbox being finicky.

If the main DNS and none of the alternative DNS's work still after a while, I would try doing the LAN method, which you can find on the troubleshooting page, https://github.com/Pugmatt/BedrockConnect/wiki/Troubleshooting#joining-the-featured-servers-still-directs-to-the-actual-servers-and-not-the-serverlist, in the section starting with "If on Xbox/PS4/PS5, you can also join BedrockConnect through a LAN connection"

I'll try and see what I can do but, I did all the troubleshooting methods and it still doesn't work despite the fact that I did everything right. I tried using the ones that are lists and even did the secondary DNS settings too. I'll probably investigate this too.

IIRC, I used the OpenDNS for the secondary, worked the first time and then it just didn't work after that.

You might need to just join through the LAN method then, if you have a computer nearby on the same network. The LAN server functionality is more supported by Mojang so that should work more consistently.

Yeah, that's what I did. Shame that I can't connect on Xbox. Thanks for helping me and forwarding this to you.
