Great project! PCB shield for the steppers/printhead? #3

Is there a default shield already for the connection of the steppers and printhead? Maybe we can share some effort: I have the idea for an SLS machine, based on the laos hard/software (www.laoslaser.org). Might want to adapt that to pwdr.

Hi Peter,

Thanks for your interest in the Pwdr project! Adapting the machine for SLS is very high on my wishlist. There is no PCB shield for the connection between the steppers, printhead and the Arduino. A standard Arduino Mega protoshield is used, because only a very limited amount of components is fitted on the board and a custom PCB is pretty expensive...

Regards, Alex

He Alex,

We might join forces on the PCB side. A custom PCB is not too expensive, just some work :-). We used KiCAD to design it.

Do you want to make kits available for the system, or only diagrams? If you can make a kit available of all the components, please let me know, I am thinking of building one (or let one of the interns here build one). Drop me a private mail if you like.

Could you give a indication of how much ±10 boards would cost?

I don't know whether more boards can be sold and (more importantly) whether the Pwdr project will stick on Arduino + EasySteppers + Custom board. Maybe a modularly system will be used in future, that will need a custom PCB for the printhead.

Meanwhile, the current protoshield is pretty easy to be put together. The sequence of the wires towards the printhead could be updated too to enhance assembly. I could provide a picture of the current board.

He alex,

Have a look in the laos webshop and see what a custom board will cost. The laos board might do the trick for pwdr. Yeah, please send a picture or put online.

P.s. wat is je email, dan kan ik je wat info sturen.

Groetjes, Peter.
