Comments

The recon variant of the J-21 has a recon frame camera that was built into the fuselage and one frame camera inside each wingtip tank. These wouldn't ever be jettisoned because of the expensive equipment. Instead of 2 hardpoints which can carry 250kg each + 6 HVAR hardpoints, the recon variant has 4 hardpoints which can carry 150kg each. Some of the IJ-21 could also launch PRM-200 target missiles with programmable flightpaths.

A total of 103 J-21 aircraft were produced for the JRV and PVO. In addition, the reconnaissance squadrons received 38 aircraft of the reconnaissance version IJ-21, which, unlike the basic version, was equipped with aerial cameras in the fuselage and wing tip-tanks. 14 combat two-seater NJ-21s were also produced for combat training.

The recon Jastreb is most easily recognized by the fact that it does not have small HVAR-5 missile pylons, but that is why there are two full sized pylons on each wing. Another, less conspicuous detail of the recon version is the cameras in the lower part of the fuselage, just behind the cabin between the air intakes.
