This didn't seem to be matching our documentation which I believe to be the reason we were seeing trailing QR data.

That matches the docs, I'm not sure on the character limit. It says 26 characters in the docs, but the docs give a 28 character example. I think the only thing that needs to change is the character limit, both in the code and the docs.
