The Python Software Foundation gave us a recap to the 2022 membership drive.
Over 300 individual donations plus new Supporting Memberships, renewals, and JetBrains’ generous match came together to raise $61,868 total for our work supporting Python and the Python community!
The foundation tells us that the funding will support this years goals of:
deepening global reach
supporting more community endeavors
making Python even more sustainable, from both an infrastructure and security perspective
This comes shortly after Dustin Ingram, core developer, PSF Board Member, and contributor to the Python Packaging Index, announced that PyPI remediated around 12,000 instance of malicious packages from PyPI in 2022, calling for more "paid support staff" and "funding for key improvements".
During the campaign, the PSF saw 174 new Supporting Members. Including 29 members using the new sliding scale rate option.
