boots into login screen, but keyboard and mouse are not recognized (work in ubuntu) cursor stops blinking after a few seconds...

A tip. Disconnect the mouse and keyboard. Then reconnect both while the power remains on (live plugin). USB handshake will now restart. Pretty sure it will now recognize your keyboard and mouse. This behaviour is known, also on Raspberry Pi Zeros. Especially when using a hub, the operating system will easily lose the connection during boot.
