I am struggling to really embrace the "Why?" behind this proposal #80

James Dunseith (workshopmaybe) kudos

I have to admit that I am struggling to really embrace the "Why?" behind this proposal. The first I heard about it was through an impersonal, templated "comment" on our team's proposal.

Our team is working steadily and creatively to build an open organization, and we still have work to do toward that goal. But this request feels more like an audit from a centralized authority - which I know is not your goal - or the sort of hoop jumping documentation that I grew accustomed to as a teacher in a public high school.

I would like to see your project providing value first, and then personally asking for meaningful contributions from groups. Show the community that you are already "Distributing Trust & facilitating co-operation" in a way that draws people in organically, rather than assuming that other community members will "trust in" your "arbitrary authority". (Perhaps this is your intention here: https://github.com/Quality-Assurance-DAO/DAO-Open-Source/blob/main/Documents/Tokens/Keep-It-Simple.md, but the link is broken.) Without that, I feel that this proposal is a backward step down a slippery slope toward precisely what it states to avoid.

Thank you James Dunseith (@workshopmaybe) for your comment,

  1. Yes, you have a point that a templated "comment" can come across as impersonal - what I was trying to achieve was impartiality. I also found that it was too wordy for some people.

  2. I agree that building an open organization is a long and organic process. But also that process has to start somewhere from some kind of initiative that involves a risk, a leap in the dark.

  3. Yes it does feel a little like an audit from a centralized authority doesn't it ? There must be a balance between formality and friendliness in surveys or assessments.

  4. Hoop jumping documentation can be pain. But our Catalyst proposals will likely face this when dealing with bureaucracies. How should we prepare for this ?

  5. I am trying to provide value and clearly it will be flawed like any initial attempt.

  6. Yes the rhetoric of "Distributing Trust & facilitating co-operation" and "arbitrary authority" does have the feel of "playing to the gallery" - such is the consequence of compressing a philosophy into a word count.

  7. Thank for alerting me to the broken link - which is now fixed : https://github.com/Quality-Assurance-DAO/DAO-Open-Source/blob/main/Documents/Tokens/01-Keep-It-Simple.md

  8. Yes certainly more information should be provided and you have helped me greatly in identifying what that might be.
