Hi @jstac,
Thanks for pinning us. I am really happy to add more references to the content. I am sure there are more mentions across the internet.
As you mentioned that we have previously attempted to get a page approved, I was curious if there is a skeleton of what has been submitted before so that we can build upon what we had. Many thanks in advance.
Good question @HumphreyYang . I just tracked down an email and forwarded it to you but I couldn't find anything else.
I'll let you know if I do.
Hi @jstac
Thanks for reaching out. I will be delighted to contribute. I'll do my best to compile a sufficient set of references.
Hi @jstac,
I have compiled a list of all external references I could find here. I hope this is helpful. I picked up the format for referencing from a few Wikipedia articles here and there. I hope these references are appropriate.
Great job @maanasee !! This list is very extensive.
@HumphreyYang, how are you going?
As a next step, you or @maanasee could sketch about two paragraphs by copy-pasting from https://quantecon.org/ to make a draft. It could be something like https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Astropy but much shorter.
I could then work on the draft to add a bit more information.
I'll let the two of you coordinate. Thanks.
Thanks @maanasee for the extensive list. Could I edit the google doc you have together to make the draft? I have sent you a request to access to edit on the doc file. I have also created a draft here we can migrate these to the page later. Also I have requested our previous attempt to be restored here, we can work on ours and integrate it with the previous draft if Wikipedia is able to restore our previous draft.
Hi @jstac, after looking a the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Astropy, It seems that the focus of this page is more on the python library. Should we divide the page into two parts and talk about both QuantEcon's Python library and other activities at Quantecon as an organisation?
Perhaps a good structure is
Is it possible to gather some evidence of how widely the code libraries are being used? Maybe from https://github.com/QuantEcon/QuantEcon.py/pulse and the same on the julia side?
@jstac @HumphreyYang I compiled a list of books and articles that mention/reference the lectures available on QuantEcon's website and the code libraries. I wasn't sure if they were admissible references but I noticed similar references on https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Astropy.
I can add these within a separate section with the other references if that seems alright.
Yes please @maanasee , many thanks.
Hi @maanasee,
I am writing a draft on the wikipedia page to check the format and add links and references. You might have noticed this, but just to note that we can edit together by clicking the edit button on the top right corner. I think we can leave the google doc for reference and outlines only :) Many thanks!
Hi @maanasee,
I have the first draft written here. Could you have a look when you are available? I made some decisions when writing this draft. On the workshop part, I think adding all the workshops QuantEcon will be too much. Given we have a page on our homepage that includes all the talks and workshops, it may be a good idea to make that page complete and include a link to the page.
Please let me know what you think and feel free to edit the page when you are available. Many thanks!
Great job @HumphreyYang .
@maanasee @HumphreyYang, I just saw on the draft that it's strongly discouraged to write about your employer! So I think we should pause this while I figure out what to do. I will probably ask a colleage if they are willing to finish it up. QuantEcon has many friends and supporters so it shouldn't be hard.
Thanks for great work so far but please hold off on any further edits.
Hi all:
I am trying to dig out only independent references for qe activities. Including (but not limited to):
I have refs for the frbny and Africa workshop. If you know any other independent references, it would be extremely helpful.
@shlff Can you find any more?
@natashawatkins might have suggestions.
The liberty street economics article might be a good ref: https://ideas.repec.org/p/fip/fednls/87084.html
Thanks for the liberty street one. Probably need a few more. The wiki criteria for refs are:
These are more minor references:
https://news.mit.edu/2016/juliacon-draws-global-users-of-dynamic-programming-language-0718 https://www.aei.org/economics/introducing-the-open-source-policy-center/ https://www.waterstechnology.com/trading-tools/2476518/the-infancy-of-julia-an-inside-look-at-how-traders-and-economists-are-using-the-julia-programming-language
How about this one from anaconda: https://anaconda.org/conda-forge/quantecon
Many thanks everyone for making the page.
I think the page that is submitted is not the complete version that @maanasee and I worked on before.
Please check https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Z5ObkT3AyUmNBFDaEDEM1vIsfyU4SlWoXbloEvmLhJ8/edit for the complete version.
I also have updated the version in the google doc to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:QuantEcon.
Nice work @HumphreyYang .
Awesome thanks! I am on the r&r.
At some point we tried to get a Wikipedia article on QuantEcon up but we were rejected due to the relatively small number of external references.
This article would help us: https://www.amazon.science/latest-news/economics-students-in-africa-build-computational-skills
Here are some more external links that might help:
I'm sure a search will turn up more. I guess the Sloan foundation will have mentioned our grants.
@humphreyyang @maanasee are you able to take the lead or collaborate on this for Tom and I?
