Thanks for the report. The search results come straight from Reddit, I don't have any control over the algorithm which is used unfortunately:
https://old.reddit.com/subreddits/search?q=publi&include_over_18=on
I did consider implementing search myself locally on the device, however this means including a list of every subreddit inside the app, which would need to be regularly updated.
Maybe the best solution is to add a checkbox to hide NSFW results in the search -- with that turned off, /r/publicfreakout does appear on top:
Ok, thank you for the response. I wasn't aware the search was due to reddit's algorithm.
A thought on this -- the search results are returned in an array that could easily be sorted before display. A sort by subscriber count followed by a sort by text match should do it. The desired search result is present in most queries but just way down the list.
For some reason when searching, every janky disgusting subreddit with a small amount of subscribers appears before larger, more mainstream subs.
Example: r/Publicfreakout, an extremely popular, mostly SFW sub.
Type P and U you get "pussybforeandafter" with 73k subscribers and "publicsexporn" with 700k subscribers. Next "Publicfucking" with 300k viewers.
You have to pretty much spell out the entire "PublicFreakout" to get the more SFW subreddit with 4 MILLION subscribers.
An adjustment to the subreddit algorithm would be much appreciated.
