It's not a bug, it's a feature. It's intended to help you better recognize your own comments, even in longer threads. Admins are dark red, you are orange.
You can deactivate it via Settings > Appearance > Comments > "Highlight own username in comments"
Thanks I've toggled that setting now.
The colour choice is odd, it barely looks any different to an admin's red on my phone.
The colour choice is on me -- I'm open to other suggestions. Maybe we can make the orange lighter, but I want to maintain good contrast with the text.
I'm not an accessibility expert, and now that I know I can disable it for my install I'm not that bothered on a personal level. I do think orange/red is too similar to reddit admin default color, and Is a very "urgent"/"warning" associated colour otherwise. Perhaps a more neutral colour like blue would be better suited?
As you say, contrast is important so lighter orange might be risky without some sort of intelligent accessibility theming capabilities.
As of v1.24 comments posted show as an orangish-red as if by an admin.
