At the time of this writing, getting someone to add themselves to the site has a good amount of friction.
The top points of friction are:
Requiring a github account
Having a low level understanding of git, and github toolkit (ie. Pull Requests, Issues, ect.)
Having a low level understanding of Markdown. (Seeing code immediately scares some folks)
During my attempts at outreach, a colleague suggested I make a Google Form to make it easier for folks to just submit their entry. This data is then spilled down into a google sheet, where I've been marking entries entered as green.
This workflow is pretty good, but was put together so suddenly that I think we can streamline it a bit.
