Lack of persistency when going to background

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Open terminal and start doing something (i.e. editing a file)
2. switch to another app
3. Go back to terminal: Your previous session is no longer there

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
The expected output is the session I just left

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
r520 ios6
