CIMA currently uses v1.0.1-beta.3 of the Chart.js library (GitHub). As of Q1 2021, the most current version is v2.9.4, with v3 in beta.
This library should be updated. A naive substitution of Chart.js v2.7.3 causes the histogram charts not to render, so some portion of the CIMA code must also be updated to accommodate it. Joel did not have time to troubleshoot any further than this.
