I have this same issue with recent versions.
Also have been experiencing this same issue.
I would reckon that R4.3 or R5.0 will support the ventoy installation, hopefully.
Fingers crossed
This is still an issue on Qubes 4.2.3:
Using Auto-detected installation media yields "Error setting up base repository". If I instead click "ISO file", the Ventoy USB does not appear in the list of devices.
I can confirm this issue. Presenting the ISO on an additional stick doesn't work either. Installation seems dead as soon as it cannot find "the USB stick"
Does it work with weekly builds of R4.3 (https://qubes.notset.fr/iso-testing/) ? I guess it doesn't but can somebody check?
doesn't work.
Qubes OS release
Qubes 4.2.0
Brief summary
I was not able to install Qubes using the Qubes 4.2.0 ISO on a Ventoy multi-boot USB. Repeating the installation using a traditional bootable USB, created with
dd
, succeeded. This issue is corroborated by Aliencrafter on Qubes Forums.
Steps to reproduce
Expected behavior
I'm not sure about this section.
When you select ISO, it should allow you to select the drive, and then select the ISO file within that drive. It should then indicate success and allow you to install Qubes.
Alternatively, if you select install using nearest mirror, it should prompt you for a WiFi password, and then allow you to install Qubes.
Actual behavior
When you select ISO, it allows you to select a drive, bet the selection of ISO files within that drive does not display the Qubes ISO.
Alternatively, if I select "nearest mirror" it does not prompt me for a WiFi password and does not allow me to install Qubes.
No matter what I do, I was not able to complete the Installation Source section of the installer. It would always either state it failed, or hang (with Installation Source grayed out).
