Kali Undercover inclusion in default XFCE for stealth mode when in public #9334

How to file a helpful issue

The problem you're addressing (if any)

Operational Security is also important when using a device, and qubes... sticks out, like any linux distro

The solution you'd like

Kali Linux includes a tool called Kali Undercover, which makes the system look like Windows 10. Including this, or making it available as a package, could go a long way towards making Qubes a lot less obvious to use in public. The package is a bundle of scripts and images that are already written to work for XFCE, so should work for Qubes with minimal interference

The value to a user, and who that user might be

Users who use their devices in public (myself included) would likely feel much more comfortable using our devices normally.

You mean adding this into GuiVM XFCE desktop right?

bi0shacker001 commented 4 months ago

Well, packaging it for the guivm xfce desktop, at least. It's a set of third-party scripts, so preinstalling it may cause concern for some people. That should also allow it to be installed in template VMs, but I don't think that'll matter much, since titlebars are still gonna be redrawn

For me it looks like a theme..

I mean, it could likely be boiled down to just the theming portion. The binaries simply automate switching the configuration of a bunch of different pieces of software for theming (xfce itself, but also thunar, xfce4-settings, etc)
