the 'Top Puzzle Bar' encounters a conflict when using 'Slim Chrome' #100

The issue below is, what I believe to be, a Firefox bug:

Buttons located ANYWHERE on the navigation bar's main section are constantly being shoved off into an overflow drop–down menu (double–arrow) towards the right end.  Going into/exiting customization can be used as a temporary fix - as it removes the drop–down arrow and puts the button icons back where they were in the main section; over time though, the icons inevitably get pushed back into this drop–down menu.

Now on to Puzzle Bars with Beyond Australis:

Slim Chrome makes the Top Puzzle Bar's buttons behave just like in the bug above.  True to form, when coming out of the customization interface there is no longer a drop–down arrow; but unexpectedly - instead of all the proper buttons being placed back onto the toolbar - only the buttons that were hidden inside that drop–down are now present; while the ones which had still been visible after the drop–down appeared are GONE FOR GOOD.  A Firefox restart is all I can do to get them back… disabling/enabling PB or BA won't bring them back unfortunately. ------------------------------:arrow_double_down: hover each image to see descriptive text :arrow_double_down:------------------------------- :heavy_check_mark: All my buttons 2016-11-05_174608 :facepunch: Notice the double arrow on the right side 2016-11-05_180645 :no_entry_sign: WTF! Where'd they go? 2016-11-05_164308

disabling 'slim chrome' will automatically vanish my buttons; also note that entering customization makes the same misfortunate buttons disappear — whether the toolbar overflow error has occured or not

The buttons should only be moved to the overflow menu when the toolbars are too short to show them all, so of course in your case, judging from your screenshots, that shouldn't be happening at all.

Is this related to Slim Chrome or Puzzle Toolbars at all? Does it still happen if you disable either/both?

I will check this one out, although it worked as expected when I last tried it with those versions of the add-ons you listed.

It used to happen (and I'm sure still does :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: ) when I place items onto the navigation bar; before or after the address field.  So it would be a big surprise if any of your extensions were at the root of it.

I'm new to Beyond Australis, which now makes me a 5/5er on your extensions, so this is my first time experiencing any further existence of this bug.

It (the ¿Firefox? bug) took a while to reach my attention originally, because I like to have as much space reserved to the address entry field as possible, and so never placed items on that bar (never keep the search bar there either).  This proclivity is what led me to Puzzle Bars in the first place

I've gone through the steps of disabling Beyond Australis > restoring the entire toolbar layout to its default setting > then restarting Firefox and arranging the buttons back to how I want them.  From here everything behaves normally when going into customization.  Re-enabling BA and entering customization will immediately cause several buttons to vanish from the top bar (as originally described).

The overflow (drop-down menu) bug of the navigation bar doesn't seem to be the cause of this, so don't worry about that in regards to repairing the disappearing buttons issue.  Concerning that overflow bug… I've resorted to using Classic Theme Restorer to try and prevent this by limiting the maximum size of the location bar to what its width normally is in my Firefox window.  Hopefully this keeps the overflow menu from coming back.  I'll update with how this goes; then maybe a similar method can be used in BA or PB to automatically restrain those bars (location, search, …) that can mistakenly push items off the toolbar.

I can with certainty say that the CTR trick works at making sure the overflow error doesn't happen again.  I know the overflow (drop-down-menu) error is not a bug caused by your add-ons, but you may want to consider incorporating a fix based on the logic behind the CTR method.

All of this is working as expected for me. I never see the overflown arrows button unless it has buttons, and that only happens when I make the window too small for all the buttons to fit in the toolbar. If it has enough space, no matter what I do or how many times I enter and exit customize mode, all the buttons are always in the toolbars (both the navigation bar and Puzzle Bar's Top Bar).

Have you tried disabling all your other add-ons to see if one could be causing it? (Mine as well, and yes, even CTR.)
