Hmmm... I am not running Ubuntu, perhaps I can get Viktor or someone else
reading this to try this one out?
Can you try to place a valid mp3 file in the same directory as the app and just
enter the filename without any '/'s. Then at least we can rule out file
delimiters.
What does the sound file location textbox say after you have selected the mp3?
Finally (stupid question but), have you tried multiple mp3's?

Hey, great idea! It worked! :)
I should maybe mention that the file name was all lowercase Latin characters,
although I doubt that has anything to do with it.
The textbox specifies the correct filepath when the file is selected.
I have. Same result on all of them.
Since it works without "/"s, I suppose that's where the problem lies. At least
there is a solution. :) Thank you!

OK, I've done some more testing. I have no idea why, but it stopped working. I
tested whether it would work for files that had " ", "_", "-", or longer
filenames, and I didn't have success at either. I decided to go back to my
original file, but now that doesn't work either! :S

Hmm that's really weird. Since I running Windows and Mac only I can only try
with those systems. Either we find someone else trying this on Ubuntu or muck
around some more and see if you can find some reproducible behavior out of this?
For instance; does the working mp3 only work once (file lock)?
Does the selected mp3 (locally) work and then stop only when restarting
Pomodairo?
etc.
Sorry not to be able to help more, but without being to reproduce it myself I
am stumbling in the dark pretty much...

Not working for me either, on Ubuntu 10.04. Haven't tried a lot of mp3s though..

The mp3 worked several times before it stopped working. I think I tried it
around 8-10 times before renaming it, and then it stopped working. I didn't
restart Pomodairo until after I figured it was the only way to potentially make
it work.
I tried another mp3 just now, but it didn't work with this fresh one either.

I am in the same boat on all three of my computers that I have tried on OS X
10.6.5 and 10.6.6. Where is the original sounds stored?

On Ubuntu 11.04 I got this working by storing my custom mp3 in
/opt/pomodairo/share (note: NOT in the bin folder) and referencing it in the
configuration by just its filename (no path).

I have also had problems with this. I'm using Mac OS X 10.6.7 with Version 1.9.
I place two files 'beepin.mp3' and 'beepout.mp3' in many places since I don't
know of documentation that tells me where they need to go and since selecting
them through 'Browse' doesn't work I'm not sure what else to do. I put copies
of the files in 'Contents' 'Contents>MacOS' 'Contents>Resources' and
'Contents>Resources>assets'. If I refer to them as 'Alarm Sound: beepin' and
'Alarm Sound: beepout', they will not work. They need to be 'Alarm Sound:
beepin.mp3' and 'Alarm Sound: beepout.mp3'. I have to say it's quite fun to
figure these things out by trial and error. Also, I don't take the point that
the original thing couldn't have been explored because it was occurring on
Ubuntu and you only have M and W. That only really holds if you assume it only
happens on U, something I assume you didn't confirm.

Has this issue been clarified? I'm on a Mac and have followed this thread with
no success no matter what directory I put my mp3s in or how i structure the
paths. Thanks.

Having the same problem on mac os x 10.7.3. When I add a custom sound file
everything is mute. This happens no matter where the file is located or how i
structure the paths as well.

Had the same problem (FWIW, I'm on Mac 10.7.5)
Seems the issue is about file path.
Followed the tip from Jan 4 2011 and the file path on Mac for "the app" is:
/Applications/pomodairo.app/Contents/Resources
So, view the app's package
Add the mp3 file, it needs to be in the same path as the .swf file.
Reluanch the app, change the file path setting for the sound to just be the
file name.
And it works.

Just wanted to say that the solution listed in #14 worked for me. I'm on OS X
10.7.5. Thanks!
