segmentation fault at startup #350

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1.start quiterss
2.
3.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Instead of starting, it crashes with "segmentation fault"

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
opensuse 12.3 kde 32 bit.  using quiterss 13.1-4.1

Please provide any additional information below:
 - feed with errors: <feed_URL>Not sure if it is relevant, but I can start it under "su".

Please attach your feeds.db and quiterss.ini files

Does it crash during first start when user has no quiterss config or any other 
related file?
Please provide gdb backtrace.

It crashed when I first installed it.  Just to be clear, I deleted the config 
file, and same results.  As for gdb, this is the first time I have ever done 
this.  I got the steps via google, so let me know if I need to do something 
further.

Well, no doubt you will see it, but I just figured it out.  At the end, it is 
the libappmenu-qt line.  I am using a netbook, so I have the menus configured 
to be a button instead of the standard menu.  When I changed this, quiterss 
runs fine.

1) You need to install package with debugging symbols for quiterss, that is 
what gdb suggests to do. Else backtrace will not have enough useful information.
2) After 'run' when quiterss will crash you need to execute 'bt' or 'bt full' 
to get backtrace.

"When gdb tells you that the program received the SIGSEGV or SIGABRT signal (or 
whatever else signal might represent the error condition for the program), 
you'll have to actually ask for the backtrace, possibly saving it somewhere. 
The basic command to do that is bt, which is short for backtrace, which will 
show you the backtrace of the current thread (if the program is 
single-threaded, there's only one thread).

An alternative command to get a more detailed backtrace is bt full. That also 
gives you the information about parameters and local variables to the function 
where calls are being made (when they are available and not removed by 
optimisations). This makes the trace longer but also more useful when trying to 
find, for example, why a pointer is uninitialised."

I use Qt-4.8.4 + KDE 4.10.4 + appmenu-qt-0.2.6
Please provide info about your version of qt, kde and appmenu and valid 
backtrace.

Okay, sorry about the clutter, I will use a file next time.  Also, thank you 
for the tips.

As for versions, I have qt 4.8.4, kde 4.10.3, and appment-qt 2.6.  Did you 
switch appmenu styles and THEN open quiterss?  Because, if I open quiterss with 
a normal menu, it works fine.  I can then switch to titlebar button or 
topmenubar and it works fine.

Forgive my ignorance, but I am unable to find debugging software for quiterss.  
It (AFAIK) is not in the provided repo.  Do I need to compile quiterss to get 
this?

Yes, else it would show usual menu.

Did you use 'qmake CONFIG+=release PREFIX=/usr ../QuiteRSS.pro' or 'qmake 
CONFIG+=debug PREFIX=/usr ../QuiteRSS.pro' for building? First command is not 
correct for using gdb.

Ran into this issue today when I started using appmenu-qt (kde 4.12.2, qt4 
4.8.5, appmenu-qt 0.2.6), when menu is set to 'top screen menubar' in kde 
settings, RSSListing::showNewsMenu() is called before currentNewsTab is 
created, here is a quick fix.
