Up! yep same issue I think: When searching for hairdresser without hitting enter I can see the first few options available in the list but hovering doesn't show them on the map; and if I click on the search then the first one get selected. The "Search around this place" or "see more nearby services" feature has the right behavior, but I'd love to see it pop as a search result of my niche need. PS: Thanks a lot for the work you're doing I'm reliying on it quite a lot since got disgusted at duckduckgo for using apple's map. You and OsmAnd are my definitive go to!! <3 Edit: that might well be a feature request, rather than an issue Edit2: I found a way : instead of searching for hairdresser search for "coiffeur" and the hairdresser category appears! I might have half of my work device set to french and the other half set to english, the confusion might come from there.
Hi ! First, thank you for your interest in the project, and sorry for the late answer.
@nebulade For brands, we have only few brands working as you describe (e.g Decathlon
, mc donald
) and most of them are mostly only known in France... Anyway, we need to add more European brands in our detection model.
@Zoyolin We still don't have the best language's management for our detection...
To sum up, category and brand detection use machine learning that need to be improved, and It is one of our big topic for the next years
I don't think brand detection is an issue for @nebulade 's request. I can search for a lot or brans and even my local kebab house and it shows up in the list of search results, its just, that these results are not necessarily close to where I am looking at the map. It would be nice if results in that list, or at least something like the first x of them would show on the map as a marker, and an option to only show those results which are in a certain distance to where I am currently looking at the map.
"nest bank, kraków" search
Google with multiple results: ( https://www.google.com/maps/search/nest+bank,+krak%C3%B3w/@50.0298382,20.0817956,12z?hl=en )
OSM with multiple results though unable to show all at once: (https://www.openstreetmap.org/search?query=nest%20bank%2C%20krak%C3%B3w#map=14/50.0595/19.9550&layers=H )
Qwant - single result, unable to access more (also, cut off part of search term): ( https://www.qwant.com/maps/place/osm:node:6304273051@Nest_Bank#map=13.88/50.0540286/19.9658623 )
Same issue here. I think what we basically want is the same feature, what the categories do:
(From german: "search in this area")
I want to look for "Sparkasse", "Lidl", "Bootsanlegestelle" ("Pier"), "Stellplatz" ("Pitch") in the Text bar and would want it to just look for things named like that in the current area, They don't have to necessarily be Brands, The naive Approach would be to just have everything with that name be shown as pins. If we can then improve it with setting category-filters that would already help a lot.
Also seeing the images from the post above, Qwant maps should just use openstreetmap search results too and just improve upon them.
this is such an important missing feature! Is there any OSM-based alternative to desktop/web (mobile has OsmAnd) that can do this for the time being?
official OSM website can do this, see https://www.openstreetmap.org/search?query=nest%20bank%2C%20krak%C3%B3w#map=14/50.0595/19.9550&layers=H
Hi there and first of all, such great work!
I was wondering if I just missed something obvious or if it is simply not possible to show search results within the current region in the map. Currently if I search for some brand with multiple stores in the region (Like Saturn while the map center is somewhere in Berlin) the results in the list are great, however I would have to go through each one just to roughly see which one is closest.
Essentially this is the same as the view for when selecting a category like "Restaurant"
