Pull images from Wikidata/Commons #31

Quite a few nodes have wikidata, wikimedia_commons and image tags, which could be used to illustrate the place. image tags don't usually state the copyright status, so you might want to avoid that one.

Thanks for the suggestion :+1: We actually have plans to make this happens. In addition to the copyright statements and the image resizing issues, we also need to make sure we don't make a remote request for each image display (to prevent information about our users from being transmitted to third party servers).

We will keep you updated about our progress.

Partially. A thumbnail extracted from the Wikipedia article is currently used for Points Of Interests where wikipedia or wikidata tag is present (based on the data already available on our side). We are considering using Wikidata or Wikimedia Commons to cover more POIs.

It would be a very-very awesome addition also if Qwant Maps included a convenient way for more invested users to contribute images about an object straight to the Wikimedia library. Perhaps similarly to the "edit" button redirecting us to www.openstreetmap.com/edit. This would really incentivize business owners and other active people to fill any gaps in public pictures.

I am aware that this would be considerable extra work.

I think it would be great if Qwant Maps shows images in Wikimedia Commons, both if they are in wikimedia_commons= tags (and there File: and Category: things) and in image= tags (some POIs have images which are tagged like this).
