Different code shown in v3 from a v2 authenticator.xml #126

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Run both v2 and v3 authenticators.
2. Import a v2 authenticator.xml in both.
3. Different codes are shown with time manually synchronized.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
I see 2 different codes generated from the same authenticator in v2 and v3,
with only the 2.0.10 working correctly. Time synced manually in both.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
2.0.10 and 3.0.19

Ok. Need to check this out.

Do you have a password on the authenticator itself as well as the file?

Can you send me the two files exactly as they are so I can check into it. Email
them to winauth@gmail.com

The files are, by default, in:

v2: \Users\<username>\AppData\Windows Authenticator\authenticator.xml

v3: \Users\<username>\AppData\WinAuth\winauth.xml

Hi, thanks for the quick reply.

It only asks me for password once, only for the file.
I'm sending the XML file from C:\Users\me\AppData\Roaming\WinAuth, but there is
nothing in C:\Users\me\AppData\Roaming\Windows Authenticator as you mention for
v2. Strangely enough, I'm using v2 now and it's working. Could it be perhaps
that it doesn't copy the file to this folder when it's already imported from
some other location? I'll attach my auth key from the other location anyway,
hope that helps.

I have the same problem. I'm currently using v2 because v3's code is not
working. I have a password on the file only.

extramans: if you run v3 and then right click the authenticator, choose Sync
Time, wait, does it show the right code?...i.e. same as v2. If you close and
open, is it back to wrong code?
