is empathy truely a proxy for pragmatic skill or is it something independent? (I dont know, but this is how it has been framed so far in the phonetics/phonology literature)
how do we distinguish between pragmatic skill, if thats what it is, from processing complexity?
a wh question apart from the propositional content, implies presupposition, but a y/n question does not
perhaps more pragmatically complex utterances are more difficult to map to intonation
though other studies (on monolingual) still see an "empathy effect" in y/n questions (dimperio, on italian)
