Action: elaborate misunderstanding

The data from r n_natives monolingual Spanish speakers was used to pilot the items/task. In other words, these listeners did not rate the quality of the items. We have included our exploratory analyses of the pilot data in the supplementary materials. As mentioned previously, accuracy was high (lowest for the Cuban and Puerto Rican varieties when responding to questions). Unsurprisingly (though of interest), when looking at the monolingual listeners' accuracy when responding to stimuli from their own variety, e.g., Andalusian listeners responding to stimuli from the Andalusian speaker, accuracy was at ceiling for all the variety matches for which we have data (Andalusian, Chilean, Cuban, Madrileño, Mexican, and Puerto Rican).
