Indeed, it would be a good thing to be able to organize more easily to fill the magazines.
An additional idea would be to be able to organize the loading via a menu system on the magazines (for example), which would open a small window with 2 parts on the left the representation of the magazine and on the right X slots with the compatible ammunition and available in the inventory.
Either the different types of compatible ammunition appear directly, or the player places them manually.
I don't know the largest number of ammunition of the same caliber. For example, if the largest number of ammunition of the same caliber is 5, you can predefine 5 slots in the window. If the largest number is 10, it may be complicated in a small window to have 10 predefined locations. But it is also possible to think that limiting yourself to 2, 3 or 4 different types of ammunition per magazine is more than enough, the more counterproductive it would be to prepare 2 different types of magazines. And in this case we set a suitable number of predefined slots.
With some friends we had thought about this problem in EFT ;)

SO I know that you can use the ALT key to stop loading a magazine, and I use this a lot to allow myself to alternate between types of ammo in a magazine, load a round, hit ALT, load another type of ammo, hit ALT
Maybe we could have it so that while holding ALT it'll prevent loading a magazine all the way, just one round at a time.
Sometimes I find myself in parts of the zone where it might be handy to load up alternating rounds of AP and HP for Mutants and Monolith, or just alternate between good and bad ammo.
