I have just learned that "Depicted" and "Setting" are both provided in the "MARC Code List for Relators", at: https://www.loc.gov/marc/relators/relaterm.html. Should these both (or variants thereof) be added as RDA Subject properties?
If so, would the definitions in the MARC terms list be a good place to start for the RDA definitions?

A proposal submitted by the American Library Association to the JSC for its November 2014 meeting suggested adding "depiction of" and "set in" as subject relationship designators (http://rda-jsc.org/6JSC/ALA/31). The JSC decided not to accept the suggestion at this stage, as further investigation is required.
There is no indication in the MARC code list of when these relators were added, although it was presumably prior to October 21 2014 (the date of the web page). The JSC is currently developing a protocol with NDMSO to synchronize the RDA designators with the code list.
So I think it would be best to await the outcomes of these develpments.
The relator term "depicted" was added to the MARC list of relators after Proposal 2005-6 "Addition of Subfields for Relator Terms/Codes for Subject Access to Images" was approved by MARBI (http://www.loc.gov/marc/marbi/2005/2005-06.html). But in looking through the change announcements on the MARC webpage (http://www.loc.gov/marc/marcginf.html#naa) I can't identify exactly when the relator term was added. It doesn't seem to have been announced formally.
However, the relator term is found in two examples in Update No. 7 (October 2006) to the MARC 21 Format for Bibliographic Data (http://www.loc.gov/cds/PDFdownloads/marc/MARC21_Upd7.pdf):
X11, p.4: 611 20 $a Stour Music Festival. $b Orchestra, $j depicted.
611, p.2: 611 20 $a Derby (Horse race) $x History $y 20th century $j depicted
So we can be sure from the MARC documentation that the relator term "depicted" was added by LC NDMSO some time between May 2005 and October 2006, or at the very least, in October 2006 when MARC 21 Update No. 7 was published.
On the other hand, I do know exactly when "setting" was added. This relator term was requested by the ALCTS Subject Analysis Committee in November 2011 (cf. Subject Analysis Committee report to ALCTS Executive Committee, January 13, 2012, http://connect.ala.org/files/66124/sac_report_for_executive_committee_docx_67424.docx), and LC announced it in Technical Notice February 5, 2013 (http://www.loc.gov/marc/relators/tn130205rel.html).
"Depiction of" is another new relationship designator that was suggested at Jane-athon_1 (see also #6).
Would this be a subject type relationship?
Would the reciprocal (inverse) relationship for it be: "Depicted by"?
It is very tricky to make the direction absolutely clear from the labels for these relationships, so we really need good definitions for each relationship--does anyone have any suggestions?

Note that I just took a stab at the AAP for Cassandra's portrait of Jane.
