We investigated this during the hackathon, but the package appears a little outdated and requires you to leave your classical R development environment, because you write your code directly in the Open Office (.odt) document. Some sources write that it should also be possible to manage the .odt file directly from Word, but with our version of Word that was not possible. Altogether the biggest advantage ist that your collaborator can modify your Sweave source document directly in a familiar word processor (e.g. using trackchanges). Not sure that's worth the hazzle - the officer package or pandoc conversion appears a better solution from the developer's perspective.
