allow user to set the display units

pick metric or imperial

if imperial, windspeed units could be either mph or knots (nautical miles per hour)

Perhaps a "units"setting panel

Note, currently charts do not have any mention of units.

Correct, and this is an "issue" that we'll fix in this 296 issue.
